FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage Commits to U.S. and Canadian
Border Security Programs: Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism
(C-TPAT) Certification and Partners in Protection (PIP)
Offers Customers Assurance of Secure Trade
Practices on Both Sides of the Border
FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage, Inc. is now a full participant
in the Bureau of Customs & Border Protection's (formerly U.S. Customs
Service) Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program. FedEx
Trade Networks has been certified as a customs broker and freight
forwarder.
"As the largest-volume customs entry filer in North America, ensuring
that the flow of goods across the border is not disrupted by terrorism
is a top priority," said G. Edmond Clark, chief executive officer
and president of FedEx Trade Networks. "Customers of FedEx Trade
Networks Transport & Brokerage should feel reassured that we are
fully committed to the principle of secure trade practices."
In addition to C-TPAT certification, FedEx Trade Networks Transport
& Brokerage (Canada), Inc. recently received approval to participate
in the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency anti-smuggling and counter-terrorism
program, Partners in Protection (PIP). Only those Canadian companies
that demonstrate a commitment to secure trade practices are accepted
into the PIP program. FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage
(Canada) is the second international division of FedEx Corp. to
join PIP. Federal Express Canada Ltd. signed the Partners in Protection
Program in 2001.
PIP is similar to the C-TPAT process in the U.S. It is a joint initiative
between government and business to improve border security and compliance
awareness and applicants must undergo a rigorous self-assessment
of its security procedures.
C-TPAT is a jointly designed Customs-business initiative requires
that interested importers, brokers, or transportation providers
conduct a comprehensive supply chain security self-assessment and
subsequently submit a security profile to the Bureau of Customs
& Border Protection to become certified. The ultimate goal of C-TPAT
is to ensure that proper security procedures are in place to protect
the integrity of the global supply chain.
