- Program
FedEx Trade Networks Offers Consulting Expertise to
Customers Applying for C-TPAT Certification
Business Editors
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 7, 2002--
FedEx Express(R)(NYSE:FDX) is
now a full participant in the U.S. Customs Trade Partnership
Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program. This action will
help accelerate the pace of the Customs clearance process
for U.S. importers, brokers and freight forwarders.
"FedEx Express has always maintained highly effective
security procedures," said Michael L. Ducker, executive
vice president of International at FedEx Express. "The
C-TPAT certification further reinforces our commitment
to the safe and secure transport of our customers' shipments.
"In addition, customers who participate
in the C-TPAT program can enjoy the competitive advantage
of speedier customs clearance by choosing FedEx Express
as their carrier of choice for transport of critical,
time-definite shipments."
U.S. Customs launched C-TPAT
in April 2002 with the support of U.S. importers who
were concerned about the delays occurring at the U.S.
border because of the post 9-11 security concerns. The
jointly designed Customs-business initiative requires
that interested importers, brokers, or transportation
providers apply for participation by conducting a comprehensive
supply chain security self-assessment and subsequently
submitting a security profile questionnaire to U.S.
Customs. The ultimate goal of C-TPAT is to ensure that
proper security procedures are in place to protect the
flow of global trade.
U.S. importers that join the
C-TPAT program can expect to reap such benefits as expedited
Customs clearance, a reduced number of inspections and
an assigned point of contact within U.S. Customs.
Complete information about the C-TPAT
program and how to apply is available at the U.S. Customs
web site at http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/.

C-TPAT certification for its customs brokerage and international

the forefront of the C-TPAT certification process because
of its extensive experience in managing the Customs
clearance and brokerage process," said G. Edmond Clark,

the tragic events of 9-11, U.S. Customs recognized that
a new process was necessary in order to ensure the integrity
of the global supply chain. FTN stands ready to help

"FedEx Trade Networks has a long history of working
cooperatively with the U.S. Customs Service," said Gerald
