EPA Flagging Enforcement to Begin May 18, 2017
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Cargo Systems Messaging Service (CSMS) #17-000253 announced that enforcement of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) flagging for all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) programs will go into effect on May 18, 2017.
Per the notice, once the flags are enforced, the filer will either need to file the required information electronically using the Partner Government Agency (PGA) message set or to disclaim using the appropriate code. The CSMS also notes an EPA reminder that, “The importer is responsible for knowing what to file, regardless of whether a tariff code has been flagged.”
