Additional Tariffs on Chinese Goods

On June 15, 2018, the U.S. President announced the imposition of an additional 25% duty on approximately $50 billion worth of Chinese-origin imports. The additional tariffs were issued under the authority of Section 301 of the U.S. Trade Act of 1974. The list includes aerospace, information and communications technology, robotics, industrial machinery, new materials, and automobile products.

The additional tariffs will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase covers 818 tariff lines, and the tariffs will be effective with respect to goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after July 6, 2018 and is available here. The second phase covers 284 proposed tariff lines and is available here. An enforcement date for the second phase has not been published, because these products are still under a review and comment process that has not been completed by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

For more information about the process and next steps, please see the official Federal Register Notice found here.
