Industry Advises UK Port Delays
The Port of Felixstowe continues to experience delays following the implementation of a new terminal operating system in June 2018. These issues are affecting all associated shipping lines. Some shipping lines have moved away from using the Port of Felixstowe in order to ease the delays and have transferred vessels to Southampton and London Gateway ports.
The delays also affect the trucking and rail networks coming from both of these ports for both import and export container deliveries and collections. The diversion of ships has caused an increase in volumes that the facilities are struggling to cope with, causing long delays for haulers. In an effort to increase efficiency, three-week lead times and increased waiting time surcharges are being quoted by haulers.
